5th ANNUAL CITY OF MARION COMMUNITY EXHIBITION An exhibition in various media by residents of the Marion Council area
As the Marion Cultural Centre celebrates its fifth birthday, Gallery M also celebrates by giving all residents of Marion the opportunity to participate in the annual Community exhibition. This yearly event has become very popular with exhibitors and viewers, as there is always such a diverse range of artwork on display.Once again, approximately 100 artists are showing their work, from traditional paintings and drawings to textiles, hand turned timber, and photography.Other media includes sculpture, decoupage, floral arrangements, jewellery, and even a hand painted porcelain doll.
Gallery M is a perfect venue for such a display, as the large versatile space can be configured in many ways to present the artwork to its best advantage. The ceiling is over four metres high, and there are approximately 66 linear metres of hanging space when all movable partitions are used.It also has high quality adjustable lighting, and is temperature controlled.
The exhibition is a ‘snap shot’ of the creativity of local artists, who range from young artists exhibiting for the first time, hobby artists and ‘weekend dabblers’ through to professional practitioners.
Many of the items on display would make perfect Christmas gifts, so in a break from usual gallery procedure, any purchased items can be collected before the close of the exhibition, in plenty of time for gift giving.
Some of the artists have also related their subject matter to the City of Marion.John Hamilton’s painting on canvas features his wife Rosie and their pet dogs strolling down a street in Oaklands Park.Hugh Adamson’s image of the Army Band was inspired by the annual event where the band marches along Sturt Road to the Council Chambers and requests permission to enter the City.Jan Ullrich’s floral watercolour was inspired by the bearded irises in her beautiful Marion garden.
This City of Marion Cultural Development project was officially opened by Her Worship the Mayor of Marion Felicity-ann Lewis at 2pm, Sunday 10 December.
TEMPT A half gallery exhibition in various media by members of the Red House Group Inc
